TheSkinVet Intradermal Testing Protocol
For confirmed cases of Atopic dermatitis, intradermal testing is available prior to formulating allergen specific immunotherapy, alongside specific allergen avoidance measures where possible.
- Sedation will be required and therefore starvation for a minimum twelve hours is a prerequisite, please.
- A rectangular window, approximately 120 x 60mm, will always need to be clipped in the fur coat, usually on the left flank.
- Withdrawal from Cytopoint® injections prior to testing is not required
- There are no (or short) withdrawal times for essential fatty acid supplements, cyclosporinA (Atopica®, Cyclavance®, Modulis, Sporimmune®), pentoxifylline (Trental®) & oclacitinib (Apoquel®), palmitoylethanolamide (PEA-um, Redonyl Ultra®), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Metacam, Rimdayl, Osior etc.) & ‘weak’ topical steroids. Please stop these medications for as long as possible, ideally 5 days before, and 1 day after, the testing.
- For one week prior, please avoid antihistamines & eggs.
- For two weeks prior, please avoid short-acting oral glucocorticoids (prednisolone, methyl-prednisolone), ‘strong’ topical, including aural, glucocorticoids, tricyclic antidepressants ( Clomicalm®, amitriptyline), β-adrenergic agonists (Bricanyl® etc), bronchodilators (Corvental®, Vivitonin® etc)
- For a minimum of eight weeks prior please avoid injectable depot glucocorticoids and progestagens.
